Q. I am an engineering graduate. Can I write the IAS Exam? Yes. Candidates with professional degrees like engineering or medicine can also write the exam provided they are eligible otherwise.

Q. Is coaching really necessary to crack IAS? Coaching enables a person to: 1. Measure the level and magnitude of competition for this exam. 2. Understand the requirements of the exam and 3. QWhat are Group I Posts? These are the highest posts as far as Andhra Pradesh is concerned. Important Posts: Deputy Collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Commercial Tax Officer (CTO), Municipal Commissioner (Grade II), Assistant Superintendent of Prohibition and Excise, Lay Secretary in the A.P. Health Department, Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO), etc..

QWhat are Group II Posts? Important Group II Posts: Deputy Tehsildar, Municipal Commissioner (Grade III), Assistant Commercial Tax Officer (ACTO), Sub-Registrar, Assistant Labour Officer, Assistant Section Officer, etc.

QWho are Eligible? Any graduate with a pass in degree from any recognised university is eligible to compete in these exams.

QWhat is the age limit? Usually it changes from notification to notification because these examinations are not held every year in a systematic schedule/calendar. The minimum age limit is 18 years, whereas the upper age limit is 34 years for OC candidates. For SC, ST and BC candidates the upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years and for Physically Handicapped/Challenged candidates, the relaxaton is by 10 years. However, the government of the day may increase the upper age limit to OC candidates as per popular demand if there is a long gap between notification to notification.
