Civils-Prelims

From the year 2011 Civil Services Preliminary Exams optional subjects were removed. Preliminary Examination shall now comprise of two compulsory papers of 200 marks each and of two hours duration each.

Preliminary Exam is meant to serve as the screening stage/qualifying round only.

  • The exam is held in the month of May every year and it consists of two objective type papers which carry a maximum of 400 marks in the following manner.
  • a) General Studies - 200 Marks & 2 hours in duration
  • b) Aptitude - 200 Marks & 2 hours in duration.Syllabus for the Prelims

Civils-Mains

The Main Exam consists of 2 stages. The first stage is the written part and the second stage is the Personality Test, popularly known as the Interview. Main exams consist of 9 papers.

The first 2 papers are English Language and Indian Language papers. A candidate has to qualify in these papers and the marks secured in these 2 papers are not reckoned for the purpose of ranking.
